We dedicate ourselves to providing beautiful designs for our clients, our patrons, and our community.
Vanguard Engineering PC is a civil engineering firm based in Rochester New York. We are New York State certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).
Our engineers have designed sites ranging from single family homes up to 500 lot residential subdivisions and from small commercial projects up to 300 acre industrial complexes.
We work with institutions, local, regional and New York State agencies on municipal projects; from small business to national clients on commercial and residential projects.

Our Team
Joseph C Ardieta PE
President
Joe is a proud graduate of Clarkson University and licensed Professional Engineer in New York. He started Vanguard Engineering in 2010 and is the company’s Orwellian dictator. His twenty-five years’ experience includes residential, commercial and industrial subdivision design, site planning, public presentation, utility and septic design, permitting, SWPP design and review, as well as hydrology and open channel hydraulics analysis and design.
His experience began at Greenhorne and O’Mara, Inc. in Washington DC creating Flood Insurance Studies for FEMA utilizing hydrology, hydraulic engineering, report writing and Federal agency coordination. He also obtained local municipal planning and engineering experience while working for the Town of Henrietta in New York State. Other experiences include construction management, estimating, inspection, public relations, management and office administration.
When not working, Joe spends his time with his family, playing rugby, or watching the New Zealand rugby team intimidate and then destroy their opposition.

John E Knapp
Vice President
John has over thirty years experience in construction. He has inspected: highway, site, bridge and building projects. His experience also includes construction materials testing, AutoCAD drafting and ArcInfo GIS use.
He is currently responsible for the City of Rochester’s Hazardous Sidewalk Replacement Program. On most projects he interfaces with Residents and Contractors, conducts progress meetings, prepares contract payments, change orders and other project documents.
John fills the ecological niche of ‘old white man’. If he’s not home sleeping on the couch, he’s bouncing around on his fat tire bike. He’s come to the realization that life doesn’t actually begin till you have grandchildren.

Jeremy M Kimble
Senior Engineer
Jeremy is an RIT graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology. Since joining the Vanguard team, he has gained experience in both commercial and residential projects with a focus on design, grading, earthwork analysis and site inspection.
He’s enjoying life as a new father.

Mariely is a UB ‘pandemic’ graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering. She looks forward to gaining experience with the help of the Vanguard Team.
When not working, you can find her playing with dogs or dominating family game nights.

Oleg Kaydan
Project Engineer
Oleg is a 2023 RIT graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology. He’s always eager to learn something new whether on-site or in the office.
When not working, you have a good chance of finding him exploring scenic nature trails with his partner-in-crime, Liliana.
